 Recording Artist

Based in Austin, Texas, Steve Power has been described as, "..Dave Edmunds meets The Fabulous Thunderbirds on the way to see Led Zeppelin."   His latest recording, the EP Nothing On The Radio,  sees Steve's award winning songwriting turned to old school Texas Rock and Roll performed by truely legendary Texas players.

Steve has been entertaining since his childhood in California where he sang duets with his mother for tips in San Diego restaurants. Since then he has: Criss-crossed the United States, hitching from coast to coast and border to border; played harmonica with John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters; sung with Joe Cocker; and stood as onstage bodyguard to Little Richard.

Surviving attempted shootings, car wrecks and various governments, Steve washed up on the friendly shores of Wales, a country with a rich musical heritage. He fit right into this fertile pool of talent, playing with all the local legends, guys with track records that include the likes of Dave Edmunds, Bo Diddley, Tom Jones, Van Morrison, and many others. Voted Rhondda Valley Musician of the Year in 1992, he also contributed music to the award winning Welsh language film Boy Soldier and formed the nearly famous Sting Like a Bee, by consensus the best American/Welsh R&B band ever. He even received accolades from Elwood Blues (just ask Dan!).

In 2002 Steve released his third album and what was to become a cult classic, the critically acclaimed CD The Journey on UK label Javelin Records. Co-produced by former Dave Edmunds bassist and multiple platinum songwriter/producer John David, "The Journey" is a captivating reflection of a colorful life and a story well told. All the songs were written by Steve Power and performed by an outstanding group of A-list musicians and equally A-list friends.  The credits include former Van Morrison drummer, Colin Griffin, Ray Davies  guitarist Pete Matheson, Shakin' Stevens bass player Bob Watkins, and the extraordinary multi-instrumentalist Ian Lawrence on dobro and acoustic guitar.

Despite limited distribution The Journey was extremely well received, generating glowing reviews within the international Americana community and airplay from Austria to Australia.   Money and Fun was No.1 in the Alternative Country Chart and Charlene No.2 in the Cardiff Talent Chart. You’re Too Late, I’m Gone” was an award winner for Blues in the 2006 Austin Songwriter’s Group Song Contest.  With incredible longevity, in 2007 Till We Kiss placed at #1 on the Indie Country Online Chart with two other songs in the top 10. A critically acclaimed classic, The Journey is available online from CDBaby, and by download at iTunes and all other popular music sites worldwide.

Arriving in Austin, Texas in 2003, Steve continued his pattern of connecting with the best of the best, joining forces with former Joe Ely stalwart the truly legendary guitar slinger Jesse "Guitar" Taylor with whom he recorded the EP Somewhere in Texas, receiving great response from personalities as diverse as  KGSR's Jody Denberg in Austin and Jan Douwe Kroeske, creator of Dutch television's, Two Meter Sessions.

2010 finds Steve’s release of the EP, Nothin' On The Radio.  Spotlighting three songs, the old school rock and roll stormer Nothing On The Radio, the Texas dance hall favorite The Same Old Song, both Steve Power compositions, and the intimately beautiful DiMaggio, written by Canadian Mike Plume

Steve felt truly honored to have been joined on the project by Toni Price guitarist and Austin legend Casper Rawls, Johnny Cash piano man, dean of honky tonk, and Mississippi gentleman Earl Poole Ball, fiddle wizard Warren Hood, Asleep At The Wheel upright and Fender bassist David Miller, and  Mark Leshner, ex- Warsaw Falcons, on drums.  This outstanding group of renowned Austin musicians gathered at South Austin’s historic Cedar Creek Recording with engineer Fred Remmert at the controls of his 1973 Neve console, formerly installed at Graceland and used on Elvis Presley’s last three albums.  Fred Remmert includes The Dixie Chicks, Shawn Colvin, and Jimmy Lafave on his extensive list of credits.

Most recently Steve completed the sound track for Rabbit and Harmonica a childrens book with audio CD created by Emily Moon.  This charming and engaging story  is in development with Disney Studios.

Steve is currently performing throughout Central Texas as an acoustic artist and of course with his incredible roadhouse outfit, Steve Power and The Pain Killers.

The legendary Sting Like A Bee completed a 20th aniversary reunion tour of Ireland and Wales in January 2010, breaking house records on three occasions!  A follow up for spring 2011 is currently being booked.
